Ditch the Complaining.

How often do you find yourself complaining? Work situations, family conversations, relationship issues, dissatisfaction about yourself...are you unhappy with anything and complaining about it all? Jump ahead to the podcast episode from February 20 here if you’re short on time!

I challenge you to think about and reflect on this for a moment. Taking ownership, letting go of pride and ego, and being open to learning about yourself and your negative attributes ( we all have them) is important in order to grow.

Complaining is a form of negativity and the constant repetitive complaining about situations, people, or outcomes literally leaves you in a constant struggle of being surrounded by negativity. And the more negativity you are surrounded by, the more obstacles you have to face when it comes to growth.

We as business professionals know there is nothing worse than working with and for complainers. The negativity complaining brings begins to drag everyone down and it makes work that much harder. How are we going to rise to our highest potentials if we are constantly being surrounded by negativity? This is especially important for those of you reading that are leaders and/or managers. If you are a complainer, recognize that your actions become the legacy that you are creating.  What we allow, is what will continue.  We need to be role-modeling the behaviors that we expect from our teams--most definitely including positivity.

Complaining robs you of joy. Of understanding. Of acceptance.

It only brings on stress. And we all know that the more stress we have, the more our health and performance begins to decline. Stress affects our moods, our sleep patterns, our attitudes--it lays the foundation for how the day will proceed.   

Accountability is extremely important in recognizing, accepting, and choosing to change the habits of complaining. CHOOSE is a huge word there! When you are able to recognize that you are complaining and bringing on a consistent cloud of negativity, you have a choice to make.

Learning to accept and grow in situations you can control is also important. There are plenty of situations that we have absolutely no control over and yet we still stress and complain about them. Why is that? Continue to complain about situations you do or do not have control of or choose to change and grow out of the situations you can control and accept the ones you cannot.

If you notice yourself complaining abundantly and feel a knot in your gut when you think about it, it’s time to make a change. It’s time to choose to take back the joy in your life and to recognize that you have the power to be accountable with how you are going to portray yourself!

Complaining gets you nowhere. And I know you are reading this because you are a high performer and high performers only spend their time on situations and growth options. Complaining is most definitely not that.
